Halifax Newborn Photography

Thanks so much for thinking of me to photograph your new baby—this season is short, and it means a lot to be considered.

As a mom of two and a newborn photographer for over 12 years, I totally get how important it is to keep things calm, safe, and easy. My studio in Hammonds Plains, NS is set up to be a cozy, quiet space where you can relax while I take care of the rest.

The goal is simple: create soft, timeless images that celebrate your baby just as they are.

If you're expecting, feel free to reach out to pencil in your due date—I’d love to be part of this chapter with you.

Capturing Memories

My style is natural and minimalist, allowing your baby to lead the way during the session. The studio has simple diaper covers, headbands, blankets and wraps available but not a lot of props. The focus is on baby, naturally posed on a cozy neutral blanket or in your arms. This way, they don't get lost in the image.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should my newborn be photographed?

Most newborns are photographed at around one week of age (ideally between days 6-10) in order to get the very best out of your session, and to achieve the results you see in my portfolio. They change so much in the first couple of weeks, so it’s ideal to capture them as early as we can.

When should I book with you?

The best time to book a session with me is during your pregnancy so you don't miss out. I hold several weekday appointments in my calendar for newborns. We can make a tentative booking based on your due date and then wait to hear from you when you arrive home with your new baby from the hospital. At that point, we can arrange for a specific weekday date and time for your session. The session takes place at my home studio in Hammonds Plains, NS within 14 days after your baby arrives.

How long are the Sessions?

I will never rush a session and allow your baby to be the guide. A full newborn session, with multiple poses, typically takes 2-3 hours to complete. My aim is to have you feeling completely relaxed and enjoy every moment of your session without feeling rushed or overwhelmed. I also have a 30 minute mini session option where we photograph baby in the outfit you arrive in or swaddled and capture natural moments, in your arms.

What else can I expect?

Newborn sessions take place Monday-Thursday mornings. My studio is in the front of my home and it will be very warm during the session. Newborn sessions are kept as minimal as possible to focus on your baby. Make sure you are happy with the more simple, minimal sessions when booking. I stick to whites, creams, beige and black and white shots for more neutral timeless images. During a full session, I love including the beautiful little details such as toes/hands/ hair/lips/flakey feet ...... these little details fade so fast and i feel they are some of the most precious memories. Parents and siblings are included in my sessions to capture the loving connections with your newborn. I know, for some people, the thought of having photos taken can be daunting, after just having a baby, but I promise to make you feel as comfortable as possible. I mainly photograph you from the chest up, cuddling baby, looking down at baby etc. All galleries will have colour and black and white edits.

Can siblings come?

Siblings are more than welcome to join our upcoming session and they are often my favourite photographs. I always start with family/siblings shots before focusing on the newborn session so that the sibling can then relax. If your looking for a wide variety of images, including sibling ones, I would recommend booking a full session.

My studio is cozy, but space is limited, so I recommend having someone pick up the sibling after their photos are taken to keep things running smoothly. I set aside 15-20 minutes at the beginning for the sibling shot to ensure everyone feels included.

Looking forward to capturing these special moments with you all!

What should we wear?

When it comes to choosing outfits, simplicity is key. Opt for neutral tones like whites, beige, tan, and brown to create timeless and elegant images.

For moms, comfort is key, so I recommend neutral tops and comfortable pants, floaty dresses, or loose-fitting maxi dresses. Dads can't go wrong with plain t-shirts, long sleeve tops, or linen shirts. And for the little ones, neutral dresses or tops are perfect.
